Affiliate Disclosure and Privacy

Short version: some links on this site earn us money, none of them cost you anything extra, and we will still tell you when the honest answer is to buy nothing at all.

Affiliate disclosure

Coop Sense contains affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the retailer may pay us a small commission. The price you pay is exactly the same. Not a cent is added because you arrived through us.

Most of those links point at Amazon. When a product is worth pointing at, we point at it. When it is not — and a surprising amount of what is sold to new chicken keepers is not — we say so on the page, in the same paragraph, and we do not link it.

Every article that carries an affiliate link says so on that article, near the link, before you click anything. You should never have to come to this page to find out that a link is paid. If you ever do, that is a mistake on our side and we would like to hear about it.

What a commission does not buy

It does not buy a recommendation. Nobody pays us to appear in an article, and no brand sees a draft before you do. We do not take sponsored posts.

The honest test of a site like this one is whether it is willing to lose a sale. Ours regularly are: several of our most-read pages exist specifically to tell beginners not to buy the thing everyone told them to buy. If a commission ever started shaping what we write, the reason anyone reads us would be gone, and so would the commissions.

Not veterinary advice

Coop Sense is written for education, not diagnosis. We do not publish drug doses. If a bird is sick or injured, please contact a veterinarian who treats poultry — the right dose for your flock is not a thing a website can know.

Privacy

We do not collect your personal information. There is no account to create, no newsletter to join, no form that asks for your name. We do not build a mailing list, and we have nothing to sell to anyone about you.

What does happen, and you should know it:

  • This site runs on Blogger, which is Google. Google places cookies and collects standard visit information — the sort of thing any web server sees, plus its own analytics. That is governed by Google's own privacy policy, which you can read at policies.google.com/privacy.
  • Clicking an affiliate link sets a cookie on the retailer's side. That is how they know the visit came from us. It expires on its own, and it does not tell us who you are — we only ever see anonymous totals.
  • If we add advertising later, that will mean third-party cookies. When that day comes, this page will say so before the ads appear, not after.

If you would rather not be tracked at all, blocking cookies in your browser will not break anything here. The articles work fine without them.
